Impact of Trump's Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum on Medical Device Industry
Feb. 14, 2025
On Feb. 10, President Trump “signed proclamations to close existing loopholes and exemptions to restore a true 25% tariff on steel and elevate the tariff to 25% on aluminum,” according to a press release.
On Feb. 11, the American Hospital Association noted that steel and aluminum are used for medical devices such as surgical instruments, prosthetics, implants, crutches, wheelchairs, plates and screws, and more.
The press release from the White House said, “President Trump is taking action to protect America’s critical steel and aluminum industries, which have been harmed by unfair trade practices and global excess capacity.”
