Baxter Restarts Second IV Solutions Manufacturing Line

Nov. 15, 2024
The North Cove Baxter facility has been gradually coming back online after the impact of Hurricane Helene.

Baxter has released new updates concerning its IV solutions manufacturing lines in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

A second IV solutions manufacturing line has officially been restarted. It is the second to be restarted since October 28. The two lines together represent, at their peak operation prior to Hurricane Helene, “approximately 50% of the site’s total production and approximately 85% of the site’s production of one-liter IV solutions, the most commonly used size by hospitals and clinics.”

Initial batches “will be manufactured concurrently with ongoing quality activities and would only be released in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements to ensure the quality and safety of the products.” The current projection is that peritoneal dialysis (PD) solutions and irrigation “will be the next two manufacturing lines to restart in early December.”

At this point, there is no timeline for when North Cove production is expected to be “fully restored to pre-hurricane levels.”

HPN has previously reported on Baxter’s efforts to reestablish pre-hurricane production at its North Cove facility.
