Centura Health prepares new perioperative physicians to be “practice ready” from a supply and equipment perspective
Centura Health, a large healthcare system in Englewood, CO, has announced a new physician-facing orientation program that is being implemented across all 17 of its hospitals. The initiative aims to ensure that every new perioperative physician is fully “practice ready” on day one from a supply and equipment perspective. This holistic, one-day orientation, says Centura, is provided by Supply Chain and sets the stage for new physicians to meet the teams they will be working with in an environment where they can discuss supply and equipment needs.
“Recognizing the opportunity to create a stronger partnership on our quest to be a physician-facing organization, we developed this Supply Chain onboarding program to bridge the gap between physicians and Supply Chain,” Ramy Hanna, Senior Vice President, Shared Services and Operations for Centura Health told Healthcare Purchasing News. “We have created a structured onboarding in-person meeting where physicians and Supply Chain leaders can sit down together. This collaboration consists of reviewing preference cards, discussing contracted options and communicating process flows. Our goal is to ensure our physicians are 100 percent ready to deliver care on day one.”
Centura says the orientation establishes a framework that will helps guide physicians’ workflows downstream in an efficient and user-friendly way. Specifically, the program should help to improve patient safety, minimize case delays, optimize supply chain efficiency and increase operating room use.
“Behind every great Centura Health physician is a team of people with one goal in mind - to prepare our physicians with the supplies they need to provide safe and effective care for our patients,” Hanna said. “We have received consistently positive physician feedback since the implementation of this program and are excited to continue this partnership for future onboarding physicians.”
