Premier Issues Report Providing Recommendations for U.S. Government on Healthcare Policy
Premier has issued a report that includes a roadmap and recommendations “designed to enhance the framework for healthcare policy and advance bipartisan, evidenced-based reforms during the 119th Congress.”
One of the four key policy objectives laid out in the report is “optimizing the value of healthcare.” Premier urges Congress and the Administration to “advance provider sustainability and stability;” “scale and sustain value-based care;” “empower non-acute providers to deliver patient-centered care;” and “ensure accountability in Medicare Advantage and private plans.”
The next objective, “building resilient healthcare supply chains,” can be accomplished according to Premier by having Congress and the Administration “strengthen readiness for emergencies;” “mitigate product shortages to safeguard patient care;” “diversify supply chains;” “foster competitive and healthy markets;” and “promote environmental sustainability.”
Another objective is improving “tech-enabled healthcare.” Premier recommends that the government “break barriers to secure, seamless data sharing;” “strengthen cybersecurity;” “transform healthcare data;” and “drive responsible artificial intelligence (AI) adoption.”
The final objective is “eliminating gaps in healthcare.” To that effect, Premier suggests the government “improve maternal health;” “bolster rural healthcare;” “expand behavioral health access;” and “close care gaps in all communities.”
