Vizient, Inc. pharmacy experts, including Pharmacy Executive Director Carolyn Liptak and Pharmacy Contracting Director April Yoo, presented at the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Compounding Quality Center of Excellence Annual Conference: The Shared Pursuit of Compounding Excellence, which was held September 6-8, 2022.
The virtual conference provided a forum for outsourcing facilities, suppliers, regulators and other stakeholders to discuss emerging compounding trends and key insights.
“On behalf of Vizient, we appreciate FDA’s efforts to include the perspectives of group purchasing organizations and other partners in these in-depth sessions to address the compounding needs of hospitals and health systems,” said Liptak. “We support our members through contracts, services and education to ensure pharmaceutical compounding compliance and safety, and look forward to continuing to work alongside our members, FDA and all market stakeholders to improve access to quality, compounded medications at a reasonable cost.”
While compounding is a common practice that helps fill treatment gaps and maintain access to medications, there are ongoing efforts to improve the quality of compounded drugs, primarily those made at outsourcing facilities. Vizient appreciates the role of outsourcing facilities as they are an important partner in our work to support access to medications and mitigate risks caused by drug shortages. The FDA’s Compounding Quality Center of Excellence provides programs, such as the annual conference, and other opportunities for outsourcing facilities and healthcare stakeholders to stay engaged and informed on important compounding issues.
