Hologic, Inc. announced that the Company has been recognized by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the largest manufacturing association in the United States, with Manufacturing Leadership awards for operational excellence and sustainability leadership. The awards were presented at the Manufacturing Leadership Awards Gala and Leadership Summit in Huntington Beach, CA.
Hologic’s Costa Rica site received the Sustainability Innovation award by demonstrating a deep commitment to sustainability through product design, metrics and policies that ensure sustainable practices internally and across supply networks. Hologic’s energy savings program centered on reductions to air pressure, energy consumption and overall carbon footprint. In addition, the site designed a photovoltaic generator that reduced the facility’s electrical use by more than 14 percent.
Hologic’s Danbury, CT site received the Operational Excellence award by implementing LEAN principles to optimize production testing and training, streamline processes, and maximize the operational footprint for testing of its market-leading Selenia Dimensions and 3Dimensions mammography systems. Hologic’s program reduced its testing cycle time by more than 50 percent, created more than 2,300 sq. feet of additional production space, and increased employee engagement through participation in Kaizen continuous improvement activities.
In addition to the NAM award, Hologic’s Costa Rica facility recently received the Shingo Institute’s Silver Medallion award for Operational Excellence as well as certification from the National Electrical Power Distribution Company ICE (Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad) for 99 percent of the site’s electricity coming from renewable resources.
