On Jan. 27, CNN reported that staff at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have been ordered to cease communication with the World Health Organization (WHO).
CNN wrote, “The directive was made in accordance with President Donald Trump’s January 20 executive order withdrawing the US from WHO, according to a memo sent late Sunday from CDC Deputy Director of Global Health Dr. John Nkengasong to senior agency leadership, a copy of which was obtained by CNN. It was first reported by the Associated Press.”
CNN reported that the order came from a memo. “‘Effective immediately all CDC staff engaging with WHO through technical working groups, coordinating centers, advisory boards, cooperative agreements or other means – in person or virtual – must cease their activity and await further guidance,’ the memo says.”
Late last week, we reported that sources within federal health agencies said that the Trump administration has directed them to pause external communications like regular scientific reports, website updates, and health advisories.
We also have been reporting on the withdrawal of the U.S. from WHO.
Healthcare Purchasing News will continue its coverage of President Trump’s post-inauguration orders as they pertain to the healthcare industry.
