UNC Health Offers Free Virtual Care for Residents of Western North Carolina in Wake of Hurricane Helene

Sept. 30, 2024
Adults will be able to see a UNC Health primary care provider with no out-of-pocket cost for a variety of conditions as the state recovers from Hurricane Helene.

UNC Health is providing “free virtual care for residents of Western North Carolina” in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Adult residents can see a UNC Health primary care provider “for mild symptoms without an appointment – with no out-of-pocket cost – through UNC Health Virtual Care Now.” Patients can access “convenient, secure, and flexible care” using their phone, tablet, or computer. The patient simply needs a My UNC Chart account, which, if they do not already have one, can be easily achieved when they register.

Virtual services are available from 6am to 10pm seven days per week “for a wide range of conditions, including fever, cold or flu, insect bites, rash, and more.”

UNC Health is also responding to Hurricane Helene recovery in other ways. For instance, UNC health providers “from across the state are volunteering to help at the system’s hospitals hit hardest by the storm.” UNC Health is also sending “a wide range of medical supplies” to those hospitals.
