Measles Case Confirmed in Montgomery County in Pennsylvania

March 3, 2025
An unvaccinated child, whose case has been tied to international travel, has come down with the disease.

Health officials in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, have confirmed a case of measles in an unvaccinated child residing in the county.

The county’s Office of Public Health is currently contact tracing in coordination with healthcare systems the child visited and the child’s guardians. The child had traveled from JFK Airport in New York to North Philadelphia on February 25-26, and then visited a pediatric health center in Plymouth Meeting, PA, and an emergency department in King of Prussia, PA., on Feb. 26. Officials say that new details will be published as soon as they become available.

NBC Philadelphia, in its reportage on the child, said that the “case was related to international travel and not a domestic outbreak.” This is the first reported case of the measles in Pennsylvania in 2025 after four total reported cases of the disease in the state in 2024. The Pennsylvania Department of Health stressed that there is no “immediate risk to the general public and 94% of all Pennsylvania residents are vaccinated against the measles virus.”

HPN has previously reported on measles outbreaks in the U.S.
