The sanitization robot market was valued at $927.3 million in 2022, according to a market report from Transparency Market Research.
This sector of the market, “anticipated to increase at a CAGR [compound annual growth rate] of 19.2% from 2023 to 2031, resulting in sales totaling nearly $4.8 billion,” has been rapidly growing as more businesses and individuals have recognized the importance of keeping air hygienic for their employees and themselves.
Healthcare robots specifically are tailored to meet hospitals’ specific needs, in contrast to those designed for offices which “may be capable of covering large areas.”
The market report found that “ultraviolet light disinfection robots topped the global sanitization robots market share in 2022.” In addition, “fully autonomous sanitization robots are expected to dominate the global market significantly,” and “healthcare facilities account for a significant share of the market for sanitization robots.”
Sanitization robots are becoming more effective and capable as technologies advance. They work by eliminating pathogens with “ultraviolet (UV) light, sprays of disinfectants,” or other methods. The robots have both short- and long-term demand – the ongoing pandemic is an immediate cause for concern, but there is also a need for sanitization methods to progress and evolve to protect against future pandemics and general hygiene in the future.
Additionally, regulations and guidelines surrounding sanitization robots are currently “supportive.” The cost is generally less than manual cleaning, and they are able to consistently and quickly clean areas. As it stands now, “various high-touch surfaces, including patient rooms and surgical areas, were disinfected using these robots.” The number of businesses in North America that is investing in sanitization robots is, according to this market report, definitively growing.
