T2Biosystems named one of the world’s most innovative companies for novel sepsis solution
T2 Biosystems, developer of diagnostic products, was recognized by Fast Company as a top 10 world’s most innovative companies in the biotech category for its FDA-cleared T2Bacteria Panel. The panel is able to identify sepsis-causing pathogens directly from whole blood in 3 to 5 hours, replacing the need to wait for blood culture, which can take days.
The T2Bacteria Panel was released 6 months ago and is one of several panels that are approved or in development for use with the Company’s T2Dx Instrument, which is powered by miniaturized magnetic resonance (T2MR) technology. Because the T2Bacteria Panel detects sepsis-causing bacterial pathogens in a few of hours instead of days, patients can begin antibiotic treatment a lot faster. The company also noted that delivering a negative diagnostic result “almost 25 times faster than blood culture” would help prevent wrongful prescribing of antibiotic drugs as well.
