Hospitals No Longer Required to Report COVID-19 Data

May 2, 2024
The CDC announced as of May 1 that hospitals do not have to report COVID admissions, hospital capacity, or hospital occupancy data.

Effective May 1, 2024, hospitals are no longer required to report COVID-19 hospital admissions, hospital capacity, or hospital occupancy data to HHS through CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), according to CDC’s website.

CDC is encouraging hospitals to submit ongoing, voluntary reporting of hospitalization data. Data voluntarily reported to NHSN after May 1, 2024, will be available starting May 10, 2024, at COVID Data Tracker Hospitalizations.

Additionally, the source of hospital information on the COVID Data Tracker home page will change from the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) to COVID-NET. Instead of displaying national counts of new hospital admissions, it will show COVID-19 hospitalization rates per 100,000 people.
